Violence is one of the most critical, pervasive and devastating challenges facing society today. Garen Wintemute, M.D., M.P.H., director of the UC Davis Violence Prevention Research Program, will highlight the latest findings in developing evidence-based solutions for this problem. Dr. Wintemute’s research focuses on injury epidemiology and the prevention of human-caused harm. The Center for Violence Prevention Research is one of the UC Davis Big Ideas – forward-thinking, interdisciplinary programs building on the strengths of UC Davis to positively impact the world.

Dr. Wintemute is the founding director of the Violence Prevention Research Program at UC Davis. He practices and teaches emergency medicine at UC Davis Medical Center and School of Medicine. His research focuses on violence risk factors and prevention. After attending Yale University, Dr. Wintemute attended medical school and residency at UC Davis and studied epidemiology and injury prevention at The Johns Hopkins University.
