Welcome!
The UC Davis Retiree Center appreciates the importance of retired staff and faculty to the university, and their status as lifelong members of the UC Davis family. We facilitate programs and provide services and referrals to benefit all retired employees.
The Retiree Center was founded in 2006. We are still developing new programs as we discover the ways in which we can best serve our retirees, so please let us know if you would like to see any additional activities or services.
Programs and Services
We currently provide the following programs and services to retirees, and employees preparing for retirement, at the UC Davis and UC Davis Health System (UCDHS) locations:
- Serving as a Campus Connection
We serve as an official unit representing the needs of retirees to the campus. - Supporting the work of the Emeriti and Retirees’ Associations
We provide support to the Emeriti and Retirees’ Associations, both of which provide educational programs and advocate for retirees at both the university and state levels. Monthly luncheon seminars focus on university happenings as well as retiree issues. The Emeriti Association’s living history project preserves the insights of retired faculty on DVD. - Planning Social/Educational Programs
We plan a variety of social and educational programs for our retirees. Social activities such as the fall Oktoberfest, the winter Wine Tasting and the spring Steak Bake give you the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues. Educational programs such as benefits presentations keep you abreast of important issues. - Connecting Retirees with Campus Volunteer OpportunitieRetirees can serve the center by joining our advisory committee or assisting with events or administrative tasks. In addition, we collaborate with the Learning Skills Center’s TRiO Scholars Program, which matches volunteer retiree mentors with first-generation college students. Lastly, our website contains links to volunteer opportunities across the UC Davis campus and the UCDHS.
- Providing Information and Referrals
We provide information and referrals to professional resources. Our website contains links to many local and national governmental resources such as Medicare and Social Security, as well as a variety of community agencies. - Assisting with Pre-Retirement Planning
We coordinate with other offices at both the UC Davis campus and the UCDHS to provide and publicize pre-retirement planning and counseling programs for current employees.
Announcements
- Do you look forward to the carefree days of retirement, when you will finally have time to enjoy your favorite activities? Most of us anticipate a long retirement, and hope to reach 100 years of age in good health, but the sad reality is that 80% of older Americans today have at least one chronic condition that affects their ability to lead an active life. Three behaviors—poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking—are the primary causes of the nation’s leading chronic diseases: heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes. Changing any of these behaviors greatly reduces your risk of developing a chronic disease. But, beyond the “big three,” it is important to adopt healthy habits in all aspects of your life.
