The UC Davis Retiree Center is host to the first-ever ‘Harley English Tennis Festival’ being held October 10- 12, 2008 at the UC Davis Marya Welch Tennis Center as part of the Centennial celebrations. Professor Emeritus Harley English, who serves as the Honorary Director of this year's tournament, was widely referred to as the 'dean' of retired UC Davis faculty and staff tennis players. Harley played actively on campus for many years, and finally retired from the game at the youthful age of 93. Harley was joined in playing tennis over the years by a host of UC Davis retired and active faculty and staff who came together to organize the tournament.
The tournament is open to seniors (50+). Players are invited from both the campus and community at large. Registration deadline has past. Plans are underway to maintain this tournament as an annual UC Davis event sponsored by the Retiree Center.
Entry Fee: $25 per player – includes T-shirt, snacks and social event.
PLAYING FORMAT: Double elimination.
