Retirees are reminded to remain diligent in protecting their identities

The Retiree Center was notified recently that two UC retirees (from other UC campuses) had experienced identity theft issues and this raised the question about the security of the At Your Service (AYSO) portal and accounts. In the subsequent investigation of the identity thefts, the Retiree Administration Services Center verified that the At Your Service Accounts had not been compromised. The RASC issued the following statement:

We continuously update our security protocols to ensure they reflect industry best practices. Details of our security protocols are protected information, but examples include sending a confirmation immediately to the member’s personal email address when a new password is created and after every AYSO transaction, and requiring answers to challenge questions when members log in from a new location or device.

UC is in the process of implementing a new self-service system to support UCRP members and retirees, called UC Retirement At Your Service (UCRAYS), scheduled for 2019. UCRAYS will have the ability to provide multifactor authentication. Multifactor authentication adds an extra layer of protection by requiring more than one method of authentication from those using the system. Efforts to implement multifactor authentication will continue during the upcoming months.

We are committed to the security of UC’s retirement systems and information, and will continue to monitor and adopt best practices to protect faculty, staff and retirees’ data. We will also continue to share information with our faculty, staff and retirees about the importance of following good cybersecurity practices, such as choosing secure passwords and changing them often, using different passwords for different accounts, and never revealing passwords to others.
